The 2021 showcase would not have been possible without the energy, passion, and hard work of our dedicated Duke and Duke Kunshan students.

Cameron Oglesby
Founder + Lead Curator
Cameron is a passionate environmental justice advocate, multi-media environmental communicator, and proponent for art-based avenues for environmental justice awareness and public conservation education. A longtime Ecologist, she is a Doris Duke Conservation Scholar and is a senior studying Environmental Science and Policy, Earth and Ocean Science, and Policy Journalism and Media Studies. She is President of the Undergraduate Environmental Union, and a reporting intern for Environmental Health News and Editorial Assistant for Southerly, her written and audio work having appeared in the EHN, Grist, the Duke Chronicle, the 9th Street Journal, and INDY Week.
An avid environmental educator and STEAMbassador, she founded the Enviro-Art Gallery her senior year of high school to fill the gap she saw when trying to discuss environmental degradation, the beauty of nature, or the cultural/spiritual connection between people and planet.
Kendall Jefferys
Lead Curator
Kendall is a senior at Duke University majoring in Environmental Science and Policy as well as English. Currently working on a series of endangered animal drawings that she hopes to turn into a children’s alphabet book, Kendall’s art draws attention to biodiversity loss and our changing climate. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in marine science conservation and will be attending Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
Kendall has been an Enviro-Art Gallery contributing artist since the 2018 showcase. She officially joined the project team as a curator in 2020.
Emily Nagamoto
Duke - Duke Kunshan Liaison
Emily is a freshman planning on majoring in Earth and Ocean Science, passionate about environmental systems, environmental education, sustainable development and technology, and the intersections of social justice issues with environmental crises. She joined the Enviro-Art Gallery team in fall 2020 and is excited to help bring the program global. She also works as a project intern for the Duke Undergraduate Environmental Union, and is working on the student-led podcast Operation Climate.
Isabel Wood
Social Media Lead + Documentary Team
Isabel is a sophomore planning to major in Environmental Science and Policy and earn the Certificate in Documentary Studies. Isabel loves plants and animals (especially her butterfly garden) and is particularly interested in creating policy that preserves global biodiversity. She is also involved in Duke Mock Trial, is the VP of Communications for the Duke Undergraduate Environmental Union, and works for the Wright Lab. She’s so excited to document this awesome project!
Tyler Edwards
Documentary, Speaker Outreach, and Web Design Teams
Tyler is a Biology major concentrating in Ecology and pursuing a certificate from Science & Society. She has a passion for all things insects and science communication, and hopes to earn a PhD in entomology after graduation. Her love for STEAM has had plenty of nurturing during her time at Duke, where she has produced a musical with Hoof ‘n’ Horn, spent two years researching insects, and created a podcast about stream ecology. Participating in the Enviro-Art Gallery has been an amazing way for her to connect her two passions.
Sascha Medina
Arts Outreach and Web Design Team
Sascha is a senior majoring in environmental science and minoring in geography and advertising & PR at UNC-Chapel Hill. Pursuing a future in environment and science communication, she hopes to encourage environmental compassion and action. Most recently she has been working as an intern at UNC Institute for the Environment’s Cleantech Corner writing blogs and white papers and managing social media, as well as a city and state reporter at The Daily Tar Heel. By participating in this project, Sascha hopes to understand ways in which art can be used to communicate about environmental issues and solutions.
Jessica Wang
Speaker Outreach Team
Jessica is a senior majoring in environmental sciences with a certificate in documentary studies and a minor in biology. Jessica is pursuing a graduate degree in environmental film after she graduates and hopes to work in the wildlife film industry. She joined the Enviro-Art Gallery because she sees art as a powerful tool to inspire people to care about the environment.
Joyce Huang
Arts and Speaker Outreach Teams
Joyce is a junior majoring in Visual & Media Studies and minoring in Psychology and Environmental Science. She plans on pursuing a career in graphic design and marketing and is very passionate about working on projects (like the Enviro-Art Gallery!) that combine her passions for art/design and the environment. Joyce also currently works with the Durham-based nonprofit, Circular Triangle, as a graphic designer. She is really excited to help organize this project and bring the Enviro-Art gallery to as many people as possible this year!
Lilin Chen
Art Outreach Team
Lilin is Communication and biology major at Rollins College. She is interested in plants, environment and nature. It is her pleasure to be one of the members in the Enviro Art Gallery. It helps her view anthropogenic interaction with nature from artistic perspectives, and giving her more insights in resolving environmental problems.
Cynthia Xu
Art Outreach and Web Design Team
Cynthia (Cindy) is a freshman planning on Neuroscience and Computer Science majors alongside an Art minor, while on the pre-med track. She is particularly interested in studying the role that genetics play in everything from behavior, appearance, and diseases, and learning how to use this knowledge to benefit communities and habitats globally. Besides helping this Enviro-Art Gallery, Cindy also plays a role as the 2021 GlobeMed GROW Coordinator Intern, Chinacare mentor, and aspiring artist.

Huiyin Zhou
Duke-Duke Kunshan Liaison + Art Outreach and Social Media Teams
Huiyin is a first-year student at Duke planning to major in International Comparative Studies, minor in Environmental Sciences & Policy, and pursue an Ethics/Documentary Studies certificate. Passionate about justice issues, she has joined/co-led various initiatives focusing on intersections of race, class, and gender in China and beyond. She joined the Enviro-Art Gallery to bring different experiences and worlds together via artistic counter-narratives. Aside from the Enviro-Art Gallery, she is Editor at unCoVer initiative and will embark on an independent project on alternative relationships between land, labor, and capital as a Kenan Summer Fellow.
Zizhuo Chen
Art Outreach and Translation Project Teams
Zizhuo is a first-year student at DKU planning to major in Environmental Sciences & Chemistry, and also interested in Art. Besides, he is an active member of the DKU Acg Club and is trying out for the president of the club. He joined the Enviro-Art Gallery to help sort out works received and do the translation. As an active member in the DKU team, he is very excited about the Enviro-Art Gallery and tries his best to make it perfect.
Yang Pei
Art Outreach and Translation Project Teams
Yang Pei is a sophomore at DKU who is majoring in Global Health (Public Policy Track). In the team of Enviro-Art Gallery, she focuses on the translation part and helps reach out to find more art works. She likes watching documentaries about the environment and animals, which makes her feel that environment protection is a must nowadays. Apart from her team role here, she is also a member of the ESE (“Everyone Speaks English”) innovation project at DKU. This project aims to help primary and middle school students in Kunshan improve their English speaking by offering them the chance to make friends with international students.
Winnie Liao
Art Outreach and Social Media Teams
Winnie Liao is a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science & Biogeochemistry, passionate about everything related to wild birds. She is also interested in multi-species ethnography, curious about human-nature relations. She joined the Enviro-Art Gallery team in fall 2020 and helped with Art Outreach in China, social media promotion (WeChat Official Account), and cooperation with DKU Beauty & Beast (B&B) Pop-up Art Exhibition project to make it a physical showcase. Winnie is also a member of DKU Biodiversity & Sustainability Lab, and a co-leader of DKU bird collision project, which is now conducting a nationwide survey in mainland China.
Meixuan Wang
Art Outreach Team
Meixuan Wang is a sophomore at DKU majoring in Art History and Critical Studies. Her passion lies in pop culture, girlhood studies, advertising, and installation art. She hopes to make use of new media technologies to establish the bridges between different cultures.
